Quality of University of Kentucky

In general, the University of Kentucky is a safe and fun place to be. Lexington is not a huge town, but there is plenty to down. I had a wonderful experience with campus housing. There is a big decision for incoming students to make when it comes to housing. South campus is party campus: this is good because there are lots of parties to attend and because south campus is also close to the library (a 20-minute walk from north campus). However, living on south campus can be difficult because it is nearly impossible to escape the parties when you want some quiet time to study or be alone. It is also easy to get in trouble on south campus. On south campus, you will probably live in one of 2 towers: there isn't much feeling of community there and you have fire alarms many, many times all through the night. North campus, on the other hand, is closer to a lot of classes, though not all. North campus is where most of the honors students live, although you do NOT have to be an honors student to live there. There is a real sense of community, you can know almost everyone in your building, and there is plenty of opportunity to hang out together off-campus and get some quiet when you want to.

UK is a gorgeous campus. It's a relatively old school and there are some gorgeous old buildings still there. It's a sports school, too, and the crowds pour in for football games and the like. The whole college experience, Crowded accommodation; shared bathrooms; cafeteria/grill- type food, etc. It's all great! Too, UK is a large school, but not so large you can't get yourself from class to class. Also, you've got to use some common sense. Don't go jogging by yourself - especially if you're a female - late at night or alone. That's just ridiculous. Lexington is a small city and has all the same crime issues any city of that size can have.
